Why "best" is the wrong question

Every tailor in this city calls itself the best, so the word on its own tells you nothing. The more useful question is which tailor is right for the suit you need — and that one has a checkable answer.

The shops that consistently deliver share the same habits: they measure carefully and refine over two to three fittings rather than one, they explain the cloth and the construction instead of rushing you to a deposit, they quote real prices before they measure you, and they carry a deep record of recent reviews you can read. Judge on those four things, not on a banner that says "best".

How much should a tailored suit cost in Bangkok?

The honest range is wide. A genuine made-to-measure suit starts around ฿7,500; most quality suits land ฿15,000–30,000 once cloth and construction are chosen; premium mills such as Loro Piana and Zegna go above that. Full figures are on our price list.

Be most careful at the bottom. A ฿3,000 "custom" suit is almost always fused, cut off a standard block and altered — not made for your body. A real quote comes with answers: how many fittings are included, whether the jacket is half or full canvas, and whether the number is final or a starting point that grows at the counter.

Paying more is no guarantee either. Past the mid-range you are usually buying a finer cloth, not a better cut — and the cut is the part people see.

Is Bangkok good for tailored suits?

Yes — for value and speed it is one of the best cities in the world to have a suit made. Skilled Bangkok tailors deliver genuine made-to-measure quality at a fraction of London or New York prices, often in 3–5 days, in cloth chosen for the heat rather than for a European winter.

The honest caveat is that quality varies street to street. The city's reputation was built partly on fast, fused suits sold to tourists who never came back, and those shops still exist. Ignore anyone who approaches you on the street or in a hotel lobby, walk past the "three suits for one price" boards, and choose on the four checks above rather than on the lowest number.

Where to find tailors in Bangkok

Two districts dominate. Pratunam — centred on Platinum Fashion Mall — is the value heart of the trade, with cloth, cutting, fittings and alterations under one roof and direct BTS and Airport Rail Link access. Sukhumvit carries more higher-end and hotel-adjacent shops at higher prices, and often higher rent passed on to you.

How to judge a tailor before you pay

Do this in ten minutes at the counter. Feel the cloth and ask where it is from and what it weighs — a tailor who knows their stock answers at once. Ask how many fittings are included and whether the jacket is canvassed or fused; that one answer separates a made garment from a glued one, and in Bangkok humidity a fused jacket is the one that eventually bubbles.

Look at finished work on the rack — the lapel roll and the buttonholes — for hand-work rather than a pressed-flat machine finish. Then read the recent Google reviews for consistency, not just the star average: ten detailed reviews across a year tell you more than a hundred five-star lines posted in a week. A tailor confident in the work answers all of this openly; hesitation on the canvas question is the one to watch.
