What a working suit has to survive here

A Bangkok office suit lives a harder life than its equivalent in London. It goes from 35°C and humidity on the street into aggressive air conditioning, then back out again, all day. It sits in traffic. It gets worn more often than a wardrobe of three suits should allow.

That combination decides the specification more than fashion does: tropical-weight cloth in a high-twist weave so it breathes outside and does not crease in a taxi, half-lined or unlined so the jacket stays wearable at street level, and canvas rather than fusing so the humidity does not delaminate the lapel within two years.

Colour and cloth for an office wardrobe

If you are building from nothing, the order that serves most people is mid-grey first, navy second, charcoal third. Mid-grey is the most useful suit in a hot climate — it reads professional, hides less than charcoal in bright light, and works with almost any shirt. Navy is the most versatile for evening. Charcoal is the most formal and the warmest-looking.

Keep Super numbers in the 100s–130s range for anything worn weekly. Super 150s and above are gorgeous to touch and noticeably more delicate — they crease sooner and wear through faster at the elbow and seat. Buy fineness for the occasion suit, durability for the working one.

Patterns: a quiet birdseye or nailhead reads solid from three metres and adds depth up close, which is a more useful property in photographs and meetings than a bold check.

Building a rotation, not a suit

One suit worn five days a week is a suit destroyed in a year. Wool recovers — the fibres are elastic and given a day on a broad hanger they release the creases you put in them. Denied that day, the creases set permanently, and in this humidity it happens faster.

Two suits worn alternately will comfortably outlast three worn consecutively. The most efficient first order for most professionals is two suits and four shirts, which covers a working week with a day of rest for everything.

Ordering a second pair of trousers with a suit is the single best-value decision available: trousers wear out roughly twice as fast as the jacket, and a spare pair effectively doubles the life of the suit for a fraction of its cost.

Fit points that matter in a meeting room

Seated, a jacket behaves differently than it does in a fitting mirror. Tell us if you spend your day at a desk and we will cut a slightly cleaner drape through the seat and a fractionally higher armhole — which sounds counter-intuitive but lets you reach across a table without the whole jacket lifting.

The collar is the tell. If it gaps at the back of your neck when you stand naturally, the jacket was not fitted to your posture. That is the first thing we check and the thing most off-the-peg suits get wrong.

Repeat orders and your pattern

Most of our business clients are repeat clients, and after the first suit the process gets considerably shorter — your pattern is on file, so a second or third order is a cloth conversation and one fitting rather than a full measuring session.

That also works remotely. Clients who have moved on from Bangkok order from abroad and we ship; we will ask you to confirm a couple of measurements first, because bodies change and we would rather ask than guess.
