Alterations

Suit Alterations in Pratunam, Bangkok

Precise sleeve shortening, trouser hemming, waist adjustments and complete suit resizing — done in-mall, often the same day.

What can be altered — and what cannot

Honesty here saves everyone time. Some alterations are routine, some are possible but real work, and a few are not worth doing at all.

Straightforward: trouser hems and taper; waistbands (most trousers carry an inlay at the centre back seam, usually good for an inch or two either way); jacket sleeve length; jacket waist taken in at the side seams; shirt bodies; dress and skirt hems.

Real work, but doable: jacket shoulders — the sleeve has to come off and go back on. Skilled, not cheap, and worth it only on a garment you love. Letting out beyond the inlay is limited by how much seam allowance the maker left, and fast fashion typically leaves almost none.

Not worth doing: fused jackets that have started to bubble, garments where the cloth has worn thin at the seat or elbow, and anything where the work would cost more than the piece is worth to you. We will tell you before we start rather than after.

Bring the shoes

The most common cause of a hem being wrong is being measured in sandals and worn with dress shoes. Bring the shoes you will wear the trousers with, and if it is a dress, bring the heels. Two centimetres of heel changes the hem by two centimetres.

It is the single easiest error to avoid and the one we correct most often.

Repairs, and why humidity matters

Split linings, failed zips, opened seams, a torn pocket bag, a button that keeps coming off because the shank was never right. Most are quick, and most are the difference between a favourite jacket living in the wardrobe and living on you.

Humidity is the quiet enemy in Bangkok. It degrades linings and adhesives faster than a temperate climate does, which is why the inside of a jacket usually fails before the outside. A relined jacket in good cloth is often a better garment than a new one at the same price.

Restyling: bringing an old garment current

Lapels narrowed, trousers tapered and shortened to a modern break, a boxy jacket brought closer to the body, a long skirt reshaped.

Inherited and vintage pieces are often made from cloth you cannot buy at that price today. Putting a 1980s suit into a current silhouette is one of the more satisfying things we do, and usually costs a fraction of replacing it.

Anything, from anywhere

You do not need to have bought it here. Bring in something from a high street chain, a designer piece, a suit made by another tailor, or an online order that arrived a size out. We treat it with the same care as our own work.

That includes garments made elsewhere in Bangkok that did not come out right. A badly cut suit can often be improved considerably even when it cannot be made perfect — bring it in and we will tell you honestly which it is.

Alterations are quoted per garment; simple work is often same-day while you shop in the mall. See same-day and express for timing.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer same-day alterations?

Many alterations are completed the same day at our Pratunam shop, depending on the work and how busy the workroom is. Simple jobs — trouser hems, sleeve length, a waist taken in — are the most likely to turn around quickly. Structural work on the shoulder or chest takes longer because it involves opening the jacket. Come early in the day and ask before you leave the garment; we will give you a real time rather than an optimistic one. Being inside Platinum Fashion Mall means the workroom is on site, so a quick job does not lose half a day in transit.

What can be altered on a suit, and what cannot?

Waist, sleeve length, trouser length and taper, and modest changes to jacket length are all routine; the shoulder is the one thing that is effectively not fixable. The shoulder is where the jacket is built, and recutting it means dismantling and rebuilding the garment, which usually costs more than the suit is worth. This is why shoulder fit is the thing to get right when buying. Bring the garment in and we will tell you honestly which side of that line it falls on.

How much do alterations cost?

Alteration pricing depends entirely on the work involved, so we quote after seeing the garment rather than from a list. A hem is a different job from reshaping a jacket body, and quoting blind would mean quoting high. Bring the piece to the shop and we will price it in front of you before anything is started. There is no charge for looking at a garment and telling you it is not worth altering, and we would rather say that than take money for work that will not fix the problem.

Can you alter a suit I bought somewhere else?

Yes — we alter garments from anywhere, whether bought in Bangkok, brought from overseas, or inherited. It makes no difference to us who made it. What matters is how it was made: a fused jacket limits what can be done safely, and a well-canvassed one gives us more room to work. Bring it in and we will tell you what is possible before you commit to anything. G.Armani Suit handles alterations on the 4th floor of Platinum Fashion Mall in Pratunam, and there is no charge for an assessment.

Should I bring my shoes to an alterations fitting?

Yes — you should always bring the shoes you will wear with the garment. Trouser length is set from the shoe, and a two-centimetre difference in heel height changes the break completely — it is the single most common reason a hem comes out wrong. The same applies to the shirt you will wear under a jacket if we are checking sleeve length. Small thing, but it is the difference between one fitting and two, and on a short trip that is a day you do not get back.

Can an old suit be restyled rather than replaced?

Often yes — narrowing a wide lapel is limited, but trouser taper, jacket length and waist suppression can bring a dated garment much closer to current. Whether it is worth doing depends on the cloth. A good wool in sound condition justifies the work; a tired fused jacket generally does not, and we will say so. Restyling is also a reasonable option for a garment with sentimental value where replacing it is not the point — an inherited jacket in good cloth is often worth more work than its resale value suggests.

Where can I get suit alterations near BTS Ratchathewi?

G.Armani Suit handles alterations at 4th Floor, Shop 936, Platinum Fashion Mall, Pratunam, Ratchathewi, a short walk from BTS Ratchathewi and near the Airport Rail Link at Ratchaprarop. We are open 10:00–20:00 every day, which makes it practical to drop a garment before work and collect it later. Being inside Platinum Fashion Mall means the workroom is on site rather than off-premises, so quick jobs stay quick. We alter garments bought anywhere, not only our own, and there is no charge to have a piece looked at and priced.
