How many fittings does a custom suit need?
Two, three, or more? A properly made suit needs two to three fittings. What happens at each one, and how the count changes on an express timeline.
The short answer: two to three
Most custom suits at G.Armani Suit need two to three fittings. One is rarely enough for true precision — a single measurement can't account for how you stand, move and hold your shoulders. Each fitting refines the last until the suit disappears on you.
What happens at the first fitting
After measurement, the first fitting checks the suit in its early, basted form — we read the balance, shoulder line and overall silhouette, and mark the larger adjustments before the canvas is set.
The second and third fittings
The second fitting refines the details: sleeve pitch, waist suppression, trouser break and length. A third is added when a garment needs extra precision — a difficult posture, a 3-piece, or a wedding suit that has to be perfect in photographs.

A custom suit should fit at the shoulder before anything else, because the shoulder is the one part a later alteration cannot properly correct. The first fitting checks the shoulder and the balance - whether the jacket hangs level when you stand normally. The second refines the waist, the sleeve length and the trouser rise. By the final fitting nothing structural should still be moving; you are confirming the garment rather than correcting it. A shop offering to fix a shoulder at the last fitting is telling you the pattern was wrong at the first.
Can a suit be made with only one fitting?
For express work it can be, but two to three fittings produce a noticeably more precise result and we will tell you what is realistic for your timeline rather than selling you the faster option. The second fitting is where shoulder and waist are corrected on your body, and it is the one that most affects how the finished suit looks. Skipping it to save a day in Bangkok is usually a poor trade.
Do more fittings cost more?
No — two to three fittings are included in the price of every garment we make in Pratunam, and we do not bill per appointment. The reasoning is simple: a fitting a client was reluctant to book is the single most common reason a suit ends up not quite right, and nobody wins from that. If your suit needs the third fitting, come back for it. Ask any tailor whether theirs are included before you order.
What happens at each fitting?
The first appointment is measuring and cloth selection, taking around twenty measurements plus notes on posture and shoulder slope. The second is the basted fitting, where the garment goes on your body and the shoulder, chest and waist are corrected with chalk and pins.
